Does the Earth have enough to sustain it’s population?

I did the math one time. Since people were complaining how there’s not enough room for everybody on the planet,  I Google-searched livable land – so not Ice zones or solid deserts, and I divided it by the number of people currently living on the Earth. —  Everybody gets 2 1/2 acres or maybe it was 2 1/4.

There’s enough land. The problem isn’t lack of resources. God has Abundantly provided. The problem is mismanagement by the people who are in charge of the earth.

The Bible says, “the Earth he has given To the children of men.” Ps. 115:16

This earth and proper use of it’s resources, including time, energy, living spaces, (how much square footage and “stuff” do we really need…?) money and resources is our responsibility.

Healthy Relationships is a priority of heaven. Hence the cross.

If relationships are broken everything else suffers, so time and energy needs to be put into healthy relationships. Having conversations that are healthy. Treasuring the value of people over the value of things that have no eternal value.

Heaven is passionate about entering into the suffering of this world and bringing God’s truth, grace and healing. The laws of God are so very good, but mankind in our broken condition falls so short of the glory of God and His love. Love for God and love for people. So we need desparately to come daily to his Word, to prayer, to fellowship with other fervent loving believers through church and bible studies, through Holy Communion.

When we are disconnected with our loving, just God, we do not walk in his laws. Even those in Christ may yet be young and immature, or perhaps in the spiritual hospital, needing healing from physical, emotional or spiritual abuse.

We tend toward greed, selfishness, pride, complacency, lack of love for our brothers and sisters, let alone this world for whom Christ died. There’s a lot of suffering that comes in this world from not knowing God’s loving ways and loving Him – both in the church and without.

What’s really sad in this current generation in the western world is that we’ve become so disconnected with our servants – the people that work for us, making us our clothes and the things that we put on our walls and table, our tools, our electronics – that we don’t see or care about what they’re going through to get us the products we buy.

We may be the modern day slave drivers through our purchases, but we are taught that is not our responsibility, and as extensive our many purchases are, we would be overwhelmed at the prospect of checking every purchase – it would be difficult, or impossible – so we choose to follow the tide and leave our responsibility to someone else, but…in the day of Judgement, when all nations across time and space have a conversation before God’s throne and every careless word is brought forth as well as the motives of all men, I am not so certain that the excuses and the ignorance with which we cover ourselves is going to go too well. I believe in Christ. And I believe in grace, but the Bible says the grace of God teaches us to say no to ungodliness. It is never a license to sin. So a healthy, mature believer walks in the fear of the Lord,  trusting in mercy while striving to live fervent lives for Christ.

The Bible says that the increase of knowledge would continue. Unfortunately without wisdom and agape love, we just do whatever we want instead of what God wants with the knowledge that we have.

Prayerfully we will mature and grow and learn to live for the kingdom of Heaven instead of the kingdom of the world and the kingdom of self, to live like Jesus Christ, Who was born in a stable, lived in a ghetto, had a season of homelessness and ultimately died to forgive people who didn’t want anything to do with him and who hated him.

May that love that is birthed in us through our baptism live through us in our lives.

May His Name be hallowed in all we do and say. May His kingdom come and His will be done on earth as it is in heaven – in our relationships, our homes, our living space, our money, our time, our energy, our lives.

May we find our delight in him, not the world or the things of this world.

One day the temporary rule of the spirits of darkness will be forever over. One day all will see the glory of God and the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the earth. When we see him face to face, may we not be ashamed, but hear rather the words, “well done, Thou good and faithful servant.”

God’s peace. Christa
