I so enjoy following this writer here:
I will warn you she does have some very intense things as she reports on the war between Israel and Gaza. I hope she turns her blogs into a book one day.
The following was my thoughts on her blog:
Ever since my childhood, I have loved the stories of David. When I was somewhere between 10 and 12 years of age I felt the spirit of God telling me to put down my fiction book I was reading and read the Bible. I complained, “but Lord, it’s boring. Okay if you want me read the Bible, please help me find something interesting.”
I opened up to 1st Samuel. And I could not put it down. In the English we translate the name Abigail, I saw you called her Abivail. I absolutely love her story. Her humility. Her beauty.
And Bethsheba!! A most amazing woman of God. The prophet Nathan described her as an innocent lamb, though many and modern culture would picture her otherwise. But I would fight tooth and nail to say she was not ungodly, but a most godly woman. And I believe she loved her husband deeply and he loved her. And though I have no proof to this I believe she told her husband what happened because he refused even when completely drunk to go into his house, showing his bitterness and suspicion at his friends.
In the midst of the most horrible situation you could imagine – the man of God, the one after God’s Own Heart, demanding Bathsheba come. While her husband, not just some Soldier, but one of David’s personal bodyguards, one of the 30, in a moment of damnable sin that every human is capable and guilty of, a moment of great Folly and blindness, David calls her in.
And exactly what do you tell the king? I also wonder sometimes because she seemed very gentle and simple in spirit, just the tiny little bits that we have of her in the Bible but perhaps the Jewish tradition speaks more? If she wasn’t just a little bit simple in her thinking? She didn’t see the plot against her son Solomon, but in kindness and Grace agreed with another son to speak to Solomon on behalf of supposed love for the woman who cared for David in his later years.
King Solomon immediately saw through the deception even at his young years with the grace and wisdom God gave and had that son put to death that was trying to destroy him and his mother. But Bathsheba was innocent. She didn’t see the wickedness or the plot, she was just kind to one of the other sons from the palace.
She was pure. Had a gentle kind heart. Absolutely astounding. I have no question she mourned her husband. And in obedience and humility to God became the wife of King David in the worst insane circumstances imaginable.
And God vindicates. God is a God of Justice and deliverance for those who call upon him and we can be sure there will always be Justice whether it is in this life or in the next. And when David’s eyes were opened after his conversation with the prophet Nathan and his heart was torn when he realized the great evil he had done, not even so much against Bethsheba and Uriah, but the blasphemy through his actions against the Living God.
The one whom we call the man after God’s Own Heart hit his knees, because the most important thing to David was not the kingdom💞💞, it was nothing to him compared with the fear of losing the spirit of the Living God as he had seen King Saul lose the spirit of God.
And Psalm 51 is so beautiful; we cry it almost daily -we cry, God have mercy on us. Forgive us our trespasses, father. Have mercy on us because we too are capable of blindness and great evil. But we serve the most amazing merciful God and there is no human or other spirit or god that comes close.
Nothing comes close to the powerful love of the Living God that we serve. King David knew that God. And Bathsheba trusted in God’s justice and mercy after the horrific things done to her. She even lost her first child due to David’s sin.
She did not demand vengance, but showed her humility; she showed her absolutely amazing faith and love and Trust in the God of Rahab, and Tamar, Ruth and Hagar.
And her son was the one made king, not any of the other sons who should have been given the throne to Natural rule.
Because God is a God of Justice and love – and love always protects and as Bethsheba trusted in the Living God, God did what he does for those who trust in Him. He gave her beauty for ashes. He worked things out together for her good.
Bathsheba’s son was not only the next king of Israel, but the wisest man in history according to scripture, but even more than that God’s promise that he would never take his Spirit from King Solomon as he had from King Saul.
What more could we ever wish for in life? The presence of the Living God. There is nothing greater and all other things of this Earth pales in comparison, the tinsel Treasures of this world.
King David was a man after God’s Own Heart because he wasn’t lying about his sin when finally his blindness was removed and when he was confronted with his sin by the prophet.
He admitted he was a murderer and an adulterer. And God forgave his sin. He did not die. Beyond that he did not lose the presence of the Living God.
Such an amazing powerful love and mercy! Truly there were consequences of his sin and much heartbreak and destruction came to David and to his family because of his sin because God will not be mocked and not only humans but the spirits of air witnessed the blasphemy, but God forgave his sin. King David was a man after God’s Own Heart. Truth. And Grace. So powerful.
All too often we want to be the perfect person, rather than looking at the perfect God and acknowledging his perfection and exalting his grace and mercy.
King David was such an amazing man who Loved God with all of his heart. Not only did he by the power of God beat Goliath, but through the power of God fully confessed his sin and received forgiveness reflecting the Forgiveness to come through Messiah.
I am so glad you had such a blessed time standing against Goliath in the grace and power of God. 😊 Yes, you are David. 💞 and through God’s spirit you defeat Giants.
Absolutely beautiful. Truly God is our refuge and our strength. And his kingdom is an eternal Kingdom that will have no end.
Blessings and God’s peace.
